Key players: F Will Bates (12 goals), M Neil Barlow (six assists), G Diego Restrepo (15 shutouts, 0.29 goals-against)
Corner kicks: The Cavaliers have not allowed a goal in the postseason and have notched 11 consecutive shutouts, 16 for the season. Restrepo has not given up a goal in 1,107 minutes. This is Virginia's first trip to the semifinals since 2006 and the third of Gelnovatch's career.

Corner kicks: The Demon Deacons are making their fourth consecutive trip to the College Cup. They lost to Virginia 1-0 during the regular season and on a penalty-kick shootout in the Atlantic Coast tournament final. Andy Lubahn tied the school's freshman record with 10 goals.

Key players: M Anthony Ampaipitakwong (eight goals); F Teal Bunbury (17 goals); G David Meves (15 shutouts, 0.31 goals-against)
Corner kicks: The Zips have tied Indiana's record for consecutive wins in a season and are in the semifinals for the first time since losing in the 1986 title game to Duke. Porter has been mentioned as a candidate to coach D.C. United of MLS.
No. 5 North Carolina (16-2-3)
Coach: Elmar Bolowich (21st season)
NCAA titles: 1 (2001)
Key players: F Billy Schuler (nine goals); M Alex Dixon (eight goals); G Brooks Haggerty (nine shutouts, 0.59 goals-against)
Corner kicks: The Tar Heels are making consecutive College Cup appearances and their fourth in school history. They are 2-0-1 all time against Akron, last winning in 2007. UNC beat Virginia 1-0 during the regular season and tied Wake Forest 2-2. UNC's only blemish in the last eight games is a penalty-kick shootout loss in the ACC tournament.
